Need a great employee? Need a good job? Consult with Crossroads
Perhaps no other professionals in the United States have a better feel for which way the national economy is headed than those in the job placement profession. Just ask Mitch Beck, Founder and CEO of Crossroads Consulting LLC, an executive recruiting/employment agency.
“The employment business is always hit the hardest in a bad economy and we have had more than eight years of a bad economy,” Beck pointed out. “But I think that is changing. I believe the economy is taking a giant step in the right direction and I expect that we will be exceptionally busy in the months ahead.”
Located in Monroe, Crossroads Consulting LLC was founded in 1996 and has survived through good economies and bad economies. The owner knows that, although the business is certainly subject to the economic conditions of the day, the product has to be top notch to survive in a tough industry for more than two decades.
“Well, obviously you have to have a good product, but it’s more than that,” he noted. “But after that telling the truth is essential and being honest. You have to have integrity or you are not going to succeed. In the end that’s all it is.”
Crossroad Consulting’s motto speaks to exactly that philosophy: “Putting the human back into human resources.”
Although he is in a serious business, Beck uses a great deal of humor to spice things up at Crossroads Consulting, LLC. A former standup comedian, he has no problem tossing out a few quips on the job. A conversation at Crossroads actually makes one wonder if “former” is the correct word to describe the owner’s comic status.
Here’s an observation from the business’s website (www.crossroadsconsulting.com): “But let's drop all of this real heavy-handed, "professional" pretense. Our philosophy is simple; not everything in life needs to be harsh, dispassionate and cold... If you really wanted to be treated like that, there's always DMV.”
Yes, there is also the DMV and there are also a great number of placement firms that believe terrorizing their client is the way to go. One patron of such an agency recalled a time when he wanted to move from New York City to New England and was immediately greeted with “So, couldn’t make it in the big city, huh?”
Beck disdains such tactics but also said, “I don’t spit and polish people. I think some of the most important information I share with them is when I say to just be themselves; the worst thing they can do is try and be somebody they’re not. We know things are tough but its best if job seekers are relaxed and calm under pressure.”
Crossroads Consulting, LLC offers an array of services for both employers and job seekers and is not a niche consulting firm, an approach the owner describes as “generalist.”
“We have placed everyone from dog groomers to CEO’s,” he explained. “There are some areas we have a strong record in and we are proud of that but we will work to make the right connections. Interviewing is a lot like dating and we want to get it right.”
Some specialty areas where Crossroads is strong include accounting, administrative and clerical, finance, transportation, engineering, medical, legal and sales.
At the end of the day Beck knows job placement is serious business.
“We want all of our clients to know this is a dignified process,” he said. “But we are also very aware of time. Time is money and we don’t want to waste anybody’s time.”
