Bridgeport Councilwomen Appointed to the National League of Cities Public Safety and Crime Preventio

Eneida L. Martinez is the Newest member to the 2017 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee

Bridgeport - The City of Bridgeport is proud to announce that two of its very own council members, AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia of the 134th District and Eneida L. Martinez of the 139th District have been selected to be a part of theNational League of Cities (NLC) 2017 Public Safety and Crime Prevention (PSCP) federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving crime prevention, corrections, substance abuse, municipal fire policy, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness and relief, homeland security, domestic terrorism, court systems and gun control. Martinez’s appointment was recently announced by NLC President Matt Zone, councilmember, Cleveland. Vizzo-Paniccia has been an active member of PSCP for over a year.

City Councilwoman from the 139th District, Eneida Martinez said “Being involved with the Public Safety Committee through NLC gives me the opportunity to get more involved in protecting the public. Advocating for community policing, fighting to prevent police brutality, and learning how to engage our youth in our communities is what I hope to foster. I will also advocate for more rigorous police training that will better serve our cities.”

As members of the committee, Vizzo-Paniccia and Martinez will each play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the new administration and at City of Bridgeport.

The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Joel Price, mayor, Thousand Oaks, California, and Vice Chairs Cleophus King, council president, Bessemer, Alabama, and Kristin Szakos, councilmember, Charlottesville, Virginia.
