SOUND TIGERS SIGN GAUDREAU, STEVENS TO AMATEUR TRYOUTS

Former Boston College and Northeastern University forwards join Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 28, 2017) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today forwards Matt Gaudreau and John Stevens have signed amateur tryouts (ATO) with the club.

Gaudreau, 22, completed a four-year career at Boston College earlier this month, posting career highs in goals (8), assists (27) and points (35) in 40 games this season. He ranked second on the Eagles in scoring and led the team in assists during his senior campaign. Overall, Gaudreau recorded 63 points (16 goals, 47 assists) and a plus-25 rating in 119 career contests with Boston College.

A native of Carneys Point Township, N.J., Gaudreau also played two seasons with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2011-13. He notched 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) in 106 games.

The 5’9, 150-pound winger is the younger brother of Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau, who also played at Boston College prior to turning pro.

Stevens, 22, played each of the last four seasons at Northeastern University, logging 106 points (26 goals, 80 assists) in 138 games with the Huskies. He set career highs in goals (10), assists (25) and points (35) as a junior in 2015-16 and helped lead Northeastern to the 2016 Hockey East Championship. In addition, Stevens served as team captain during his senior season, this past year.

A native of Sea Isle City, N.J., Stevens played 61 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) prior to his college career and helped the team capture the 2013 Clark Cup Championship. He was also named to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2012-13.

The 6’2, 194-pound center is the son of former NHL/AHL defenseman and current Los Angeles Kings assistant coach John Stevens.
