Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men’s basketball team earned a split of its Western New York road trip on Friday night with a 96-76 East Coast Conference victory over the host Robert Wesleyan College Redhawks. The Purple Knights are now 12-9 overall and 8-4 in the ECC. RWC falls to 2-19 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
Junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring and rebounding on Friday night with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
UB senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) notched double-double number 12 of the season scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Junior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) was outstanding off the Bridgeport bench scoring a season-high 20 points for the winners, and junior Carlos DeJesus (Bronx, N.Y.) made it four Purple Knights in double figures with 17 points.
Sophomore point guard D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) did a fine job direction the UB offense as he dished off 11 assists and just missed a double-double of his own scoring nine points.
Quinn Carey of Roberts Wesleyan led all scorers in the game with 32 points.
Up next, the UB men’s basketball team will continue a busy stretch of action when the Purple Knights close out a three-game road trip on Monday night with the team’s final non-conference tilt of the season at the University of New Haven. Tip-off in West Haven is slated for 7:00 p.m. on February 6.
