Rowena White named city's Communications Director
Bridgeport – Mayor Joe Ganim today announced that he has appointed veteran marketing professional and longtime Bridgeport resident Rowena White as Director of Communications for the City of Bridgeport. White will now serve as primary contact for all media inquiries including those related to public safety matters. Rowena White has a long track record of marketing community events and organizations in the city of Bridgeport and especially working with the Bridgeport business community. Most recently, White planned events and coordinated advertising sponsorships for the statewide Connoisseur Media Group, that owns and operates several major radio stations in the Connecticut market such as WPLR, Star 99.1, WFOX, WYBC, and WDRC.
“I am very pleased to bring Rowena on board to join our team and help tell the amazing story of what is happening in Bridgeport,” said Ganim. “Rowena has a deep sense of commitment to our community and has the professional background and skill set to really help put Bridgeport on the map. This is an exciting time for our city and we have a tremendous opportunity in the near future to redefine who we are as a city, and where we want to go. I am very pleased that Rowena has agreed to serve the city she loves and help us show how great a place we are to live, have fun and do business!”
“I believe in this city and I believe in the vision Mayor Ganim has for the future of our community,” said White. “I can’t wait to share that vision with everyone – residents, visitors, and businesses, students at our universities, and potential residents and investors. This is a very passionate, dynamic, diverse and energetic community where you can come, work hard, succeed, afford to live, and truly make an impact. The future is bright and we look forward to telling our story!”
Some of Rowena White’s professional background includes her service as Director and President of the WICC Holiday Fund for Children 1995-2002 and as Director on the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce in 2015-2016, as well as being a member of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council from 1997-2016. White replaces Av Harris as Director of Communications for the city of Bridgeport, who has taken on a new role as Director of Legislative Affairs and Public Policy in the Ganim administration.
