Danbury -Two freshman members of the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team have been selected as winners of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Gymnastics Athletes of the Week Awards for the week ending January 15, 2017 for their outstanding performances over the weekend. Freshman Nina Whittaker (Salem, N.H.) earned ECAC Division II Rookie of the Week honors, and classmate Julianna Drapkin (Holmdel, N.J.) was selected as the ECAC Division II Coaches Award winner. Whittaker turned in solid scores of 9.775 on the vault and 9.75 on floor exercise for the Purple Knights in their tri-meet victory Brown and New Hampshire on Saturday in Providence, R.I. The freshman was a late addition to the Bridgeport meet roster after a last-minute injury to a teammate. Drapkin filled infor an injured teammate and scored a 9.625 on the vault and 9.450 on the bars to help Bridgeport finish in first in last Saturday meet.
