Mayfield returned to Sound Tigers


BRIDGEPORT - The New York Islanders announced today defenseman Scott Mayfield has been returned on loan to the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Mayfield played two games with the Islanders this season, recording two assists, 17 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating. Both helpers came in Wednesday’s 5-3 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins at Barclays Center. Mayfield has also played 12 games with the Sound Tigers this season, recording two points (one goal, one assist), 16 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating.

A native of St. Louis, Mayfield made six appearances with the Islanders last season, notching his first NHL goal on April 9, 2016 against the Buffalo Sabres. He signed a two-year NHL contract with New York on July 13, 2016. Overall, the 24-year-old has played 13 games with the Islanders and 212 AHL contests with the Sound Tigers. He has recorded 46 points (10 goals, 36 assists) and 400 penalty minutes with Bridgeport.

The 6’5, 218-pound defenseman was originally selected by the Islanders in the second round (34th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
