Mayor Ganim, City of Bridgeport to Light Christmas Tree and Honor Ornament Contest Winners
Nine Bridgeport Public School Students will place Ornament Creations on Christmas Tree
Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim will join nine Bridgeport Public School students at the annual Christmas Tree
Lighting on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. This event will take place at McLevy Green on Bank Street in Bridgeport. This year’s theme is “Peace on Earth”. The students were asked to use this opportunity to use words and images representing countries and various cultures to signify harmony among people. The Mayor’s administration selected the winners Tuesday. Three winners were chosen from Bridgeport elementary, middle and high schools.
The first place winners received a $25.00 gift certificate to Bridgeport’s Artist and Craftsman’s Supply, donated by City Lights Gallery. All first, second and third place winners will receive a citation at the Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday given by the Mayor.

Elementary School Category:
1st place-Aaron Weston, 6th grade- Read
2nd place- Xiare Henriquez-Lappots, 5th grade- Read
3rd place- Devonte Harriott, 4th grade- Beardsley
Middle School Category:
1st place-Amy Jacobo, 7th grade- Barnum
2nd place- Denise Delgado, 7th grade- Park City Magnet
3rd place- Kayla Keddo and Nivea Ortiz, 8th grade- High Horizons Magnet
High School Category:
1st place- Henry Machado, Central High School
2nd place- Jonathan Gomes, Central High School
3rd place- Balwin Gaitan, Central High School
The Christmas Tree Lighting will give the residents the chance to meet Santa as Bridgeport’s Fire Department Engine arrives with his helpers. The night will include musical and dance performances, along with special guest appearance Megan Stone from Star 99.9 FM. Refreshments will be provided by local restaurants and bakeries.
