U.B. volleyball falls to Daemen


Amherst, N.Y.-After defeating Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night, the University of Bridgeport women’s volleyball team had a quick turnaround to complete their trip to Western New York taking on East Conference leader Daemen College at 12 noon on Saturday, and the host Wildcats defeated the visiting Purple Knights in straight sets, 15-25, 20-25, 18-25. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 13-11 overall and 9-3 in conference play. With the win, Daemen moves to 20-6 overall and 11-1 in the ECC. The victory also clinches the top seed and the host duties for the Wildcats for this season’s conference championship tournament which will begin on Friday, November 18.

Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the Purple Knights with nine kills on the day, and Cruz also tied for the team lead in digs in the match with classmate Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France), as they each recorded 12.

Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Bridgeport offense nicely with 20 assists.

Up next, the UB women’s volleyball team will host Molloy College in its 2016 home finale on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Senior Night action will get underway In Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
