Links Academy Receives NCAA Accreditation
Student-Athletes offered alternative means to meet Academic Eligibility Requirements Greenwich Education Group is pleased to announce that Links Academy has received Eligibility Status from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”). In order to compete or to receive athletic scholarships at the college level, student-athletes must meet certain academic requirements established by the NCAA including completion of a standard set of approved core courses. Links Academy is now eligible to provide high school student-athletes with NCAA-approved courses, which will fulfill their academic requirements. Andrea MacGilpin, Head of School for Links Academy, explained that “college-bound student athletes often struggle with the demands oftraining, traveling to competitions, and achieving academic eligibility to attend college. Links Academy’s unique, one-to-one educational programs will provide local athletes with an alternative means of obtaining a high quality educational experience, which will meet NCAA eligibility standards, but which can be customized to best meet their unique needs”. Vicky Newman, Founder and Executive Director of Greenwich Education Group, explained that “Links Academy will now be able to offerstudent-athletes the option of a one-on-one learning experience, either on a full or partial year basis, structured around their unique scheduling needs, while minimizing disruption to their learning. We understand the daunting challenges of juggling school work with time spent pursuing their athletic careers. Our flexible scheduling means courses can be taken at any time during the year and still provide the athlete with a credible, high quality academic record to support their academic goals in conjunction with their athletic aspirations”.
Links Academy is an accredited short and long-term school whose foundation is its student-centered, relationship-based, one-to-one model. Our unique school prides itself on crafting the optimal learning experience by integrating strong, individualized academic instruction and seamless support services to create a custom program within a vibrant student community. Typical reasons for attending Links include school anxiety and avoidance, medical reasons (Lyme Disease, concussions, and other medical issues), a transition between schools, or the need for a flexible schedule because the student may be, for example, an athlete, who may take our NCAA-approved courses to fulfill academic requirements or to retake courses to improve a grade. One-to-one academic courses with expert teaching faculty allows for an in-depth, fluid exploration of the curriculum and addresses pre-existing gaps in knowledge so each student can thrive in all ways and embark on a journey of “Learning Without Limits.”
