Milano is bringing a fresh new taste to downtown Bridgeport dining scene

Dining patrons looking for the next great restaurant in downtown Bridgeport can stop holding their breath. Entering the scene is Milano – Pizzeria Wine Bar, an eclectic yet family style restaurant that is poised to rock the palates of diners heading to the Park City. Milano has taken over the space formerly occupied by Two Boots at 281 Fairfield Avenue.

To operate any successful establishment a clear vision is needed, and brothers Freddy and Peter Tomaj have certainly brought their vision of fine dining to Milano.

“We are going to bring fresh quality cuisine at good prices,” said Freddy Tomaj. “We will offer plenty of Mom and Pop Italian cuisine as well as some modern dishes. We hope to get families out the door with a great experience for way under $100.”

Peter Tomaj added, “We are going to try different cuisines. We will play around and make things different and still maintain top quality. Our hamburgers range from the traditional burgers to some things that sound pretty wild but taste great. They are all good.”

Among those burgers are the Messy Burger, which features an eight ounce Angus burger, pulled pork, provolone bacon and cole slaw, the Wake up burger, which is topped with bacon and a fried egg and the Pepperoni Pizza Burger.

When pressed for their favorite dishes served at their new restaurant, both Freddy and Peter were stumped for an answer.

“It’s so difficult, everything is phenomenal,” said Freddy. Peter pointed out, “We have an excellent chef and an excellent pizza guy.” If they had to choose, Freddy would opt for the stuffed sole and Peter would select the barbequed chicken.

Just a few of the other mouth watering entrees on the Milano menu include Baked Gnocchi Bolognese, Rib eye Bistecca, Pork Chop Campagnola and Salmon Picatta.

Peter, who is currently in Prague in the Czech Republic opening a new restaurant, is amazed at some of the creations his pizza chef has come up with. “You can do almost anything with pizza these days,” he said. “The combinations are unbelievable.”

Although there is every standard topping imaginable available at Milano Pizzeria and Wine Bar, there are some specialty pizzas that are eye popping to say the least. Among the specialty pies are the Clams Casino, Arugula Salad Pizza, BBQ Chicken Pie, Buffalo Chicken & Cheddar, Strawberry Delight, Chicken Bacon Ranch and Mashed Potato Pie.

Of course, the brothers have included a spectacular wine list for their customer’s delight, as befits the name of the establishment. The accent is on Italy but there are also wines from Chile, New Zealand, California, France, Argentina, Washington and Oregon.

Specialty cocktails are also available and bear such names Italiano Manhattan, Paper Plane, Wild Blossom, Smokin’ Paloma and Roman Highball. These and other drinks will be featured at Happy Hour, which will be Monday thru Friday from 3 p.m... to 7 p.m. There will also be the famous Czech beer Pilsner Urquel available for only $4 at Happy Hour.

Milano is also offering a brunch that will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Why should brunch be only on Sundays?”

Some of the many delicious items available for patrons are Belgian Waffles, Canoli French Toast, stuffed pancakes, scrambled eggs with salsa, and a wide variety of omelets and breakfast wraps.

The Tomaj brothers are both excited about the opportunity to bring their style of fine dining to downtown Bridgeport.

“This is a family business and this is a great place for a family, for Mom, Dad and the kids,” noted Peter. “And where better than this city? Bridgeport is a great place to do business.”
