Albaladejo Strikes Out Six In Losing Effort

(Bridgeport) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-34) fell to the Long Island Ducks (33-28) 1-0 Friday evening at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in a low scoring affair that saw just ten total hits. Bridgeport has their three-game winning streak come to a close and is shutout for the second time this season. The Ducks snap a four game losing skid, improving to 8-10 on the season in games decided by a single run.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (5-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering the game’s only run on five hits allowed in six and one third innings on the mound, striking out six batters. Long Island Starting Pitcher Bruce Kern (1-1) earned the victory tossing seven and one-third scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just four hits while striking out a season-high eight batters. Todd Coffey picked up his 10th save of the year for the Ducks after facing four batters in the bottom half of the ninth inning, giving up a walk while striking out one.

The game’s only offensive action took place in the top of the fourth inning, as Fehlandt Lentini was driven in by Cody Puckett with a run-scoring single off Albaladejo after Lentini reached base on a ground-rule double to left field to open up the frame as the visitors took a 1-0 lead. Bridgeport’s comeback efforts would fall short, as they stranded four batters and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position. The Bluefish turned two double plays defensively against the Ducks, giving them a league-leading 54 twin-killings on the season. Welington Dotel led the offensive efforts for Bridgeport with a pair of hits, extending his hitting streak to seven consecutive games.
