Bridgeport falls to Lancaster 3-1

Quality Start For Antonini, Galvez Extends Hitting Streak

(Bridgeport) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-33) fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers (29-27) 3-1, in the first of a three game series between the teams at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday night. The loss snaps a three game winning streak for the ‘Fish at home, their longest of the season.

Lancaster’s win propels them to 2-2 against Bridgeport in 2016, as they avoid dropping to .500 on the campaign.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini put up his team-high seventh quality start of the season, but registered the no-decision, surrendering a run on five hits through six innings of work on the mound, walking one and striking out a season high eight batters while allowing a home run Lancaster Starting Pitcher Tanner Peters also did not factor into the outcome of the game, as he allowed just a run on nine hits striking out a batter and giving up one free pass in six and two-thirds innings. Kevin Munson (2-0) earned the win for the Barnstormers, giving up just one hit in an inning and one-third on the mound, walking one and striking out three. Brian Moran (0-3) suffered the loss for the Bluefish, allowing two runs on two hits in an inning of relief, walking and striking out one and giving up one home run. Pete Andrelczyk garnered his first save on the year, retiring the final two batters of the game in two-thirds of an inning pitched.

Following scoreless innings of play from both teams, Lancaster’s Mike McDade started things off offensively in the top of the third, launching a solo home run to left center field off Antonini with two outs on an 0-2 pitch to give the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead. Bridgeport tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth, as Jose Cuevas sent Adron Chambers home with two outs collecting an infield single and then advancing to second on a throwing error by Kevin Ahrens. Lancaster would pull ahead in the top of the 8th inning, as another baseball was propelled over the leftfield wall, this time a two-run shot by Josh Bell off Moran. Bell has now hit a big-fly in six of his last seven games played, and just like that the score was 3-1 in favor of the Barnstormers.

Munson kept up the solid relief effort in the bottom of the frame, striking out the side and stranding two Bluefish baserunners, halting any offensive resurgence from Bridgeport. Scott Shuman took the mound in the ninth for the ‘Fish, striking out two in four batters faced while stranding a Lancaster insurance run at third base in the process.

Bridgeport’s final comeback effort in the bottom of the ninth inning was unsuccessful, as a combined pitching effort of Ryan Dennick and Andrelczyk finished the job for Lancaster. Cuevas, Endy Chavez, and Welington Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits each.
