Bluefish catcher Rafael Lopez signed by Cincinnati Reds

(Bridgeport) – Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that catcher Rafael Lopez has had his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds organization. He will report to Triple-A Louisville of the International League.

“We are very happy that Rafael has received this opportunity,” says Paul Herrmann, Bluefish Senior Director of Baseball Operations and Public Relations. “We wish him the best of luck with his new organization.”

Lopez has played seven games with the ‘Fish this season, collecting a .250 batting average with two RBI and two runs scored.

The 28-year-old made his professional debut in 2011 after being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the MLB draft. Rafael spent five seasons in the Cubs organization before making his Major League debut in 2014, where he spent seven games with the big league club.

Lopez is the first Bluefish player to have his contract purchased during the 2016 season.
