Loretta Swit brings one woman show to The Klein Sunday, May 1

Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey 1-woman drama starring Loretta Swit

Two-time Emmy Award-winning actress Loretta Swit (M*A*S*H) is coming to The Klein on Sunday May 1, 2016 to perform in “Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey”, a play written by Rhoda Lerman. The performance starts at 5:30 pm.

Throughout her life, Eleanor Roosevelt found the courage to face her challenges and discovered that they made her stronger. From supportive spouse of an American aristocrat and politician to wronged wife to advocate for the rights of those who had no champion, Eleanor grew at every step. ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, HER SECRET JOURNEY begins when President Truman asks her to head the American delegation to the newly created United Nations. Knowing this would be a big step for any woman, she reviews her life before deciding to accept the offer that ultimately landed her on the world stage.

This marks Loretta Swit’s first time performing on the Klein stage, and Eleanor Roosevelt herself appeared at the Klein in October 1953. In fact, The Klein is the only space where Ms Swit has performed this play that actually had Mrs. Roosevelt as a guest. Laurence A. Caso, The Klein’s Executive Director says, “This is the first dramatic play presented at The Klein in modern memory, and we’re honored to welcome an actress the caliber of Loretta Swit to restore the tradition. Just as Eleanor Roosevelt was a groundbreaking influence, particularly for women, so is Loretta Swit. The role she played on M*A*S*H was distinctive, because she was one of the first recurring female characters on television that wasn’t a housewife or ditzy neighbor. Maj. Houlihan was a professional military nurse, and Loretta artfully instilled dignity, humanity and humor into her character. We can’t wait to see how she displays those gifts as Eleanor.”

Tickets are on sale now at the Klein box office (800-424-0160 ext. 2), and online at: www.theklein.org. Prices are: $75 (ticket includes admission to a private reception with Ms. Swit following the performance);

$49.50/$36/$24.50/$13.50. Prices include all taxes and fees.
