Serving the needs of the locals the Bridgeport Community Pharmacy steps up to the plate in downtown

(The Bridgeport Community Pharmacy is in the heart of the Park City at the foot of the Cabaret Theater)

To hear some people talk, you would think the last thing they would want to do would be to open up a business in downtown Bridgeport.

Well, fortunately for the Park City business owner and pharmacist extraordinaire Dawn A. Pasquariello-Reynolds does not think that way.

“This is a community,” Pasquariello-Reynolds, a pharmacist with nearly three decades of experience stated emphatically. “And this community needed an old fashioned drug store.” She noted this with pride as she discussed her brand new venture, Bridgeport Community Pharmacy, in a recent discussion with the Bridgeport Banner.

“So why not open an old school drug store,?” she reasoned. And any reasonable person would answer she should. And so she did.

And thanks to Pasquariello-Hickey’s ingenuity and decisiveness, downtown Bridgeport has a new local drug store, something that has been lacking since Rite Aid closed up shop several years ago. Pasquariello-Hickey has filled that void, opening Bridgeport Community Pharmacy on January 11th. The new pharmacy has stepped up to fill a need for local residents that have been sadly lacking in pharmaceutical care.

“Well, one of the main reasons I picked this spot was because there were no local pharmacies,” she explained. “I knew there was a need and I wanted to fulfill that need. We’re serving a need in this community and to me that is what is important.”

The owner of Bridgeport’s newest drug store also 3waxed eloquently about her role in the downtown Bridgeport community.

“The people in this community need this service,” explained the veteran pharmacist. “It’s not a job to me; it’s an absolute joy. It’s quite simple: I think we provide a community service and I want to help out in the best way I can. It’s not a job to me; absolutely not.”

A resident of Bethel, as was P.T. Barnum, Pasquariello-Reynolds hopes to use her expertise and caring in helping out Park City residents. Her motivation? Her son, Kevin Reynolds, Jr., now a junior at Bethel High School, home of the Wildcats.

“He’s my everything,” said the proud Mom, whose son excels in the Bethel ROTC. “He’s not a showy kid, but he wants to be in the Navy and everyone is so proud of him.”

Besides prescription drugs, patrons of Bridgeport Community Pharmacy can find over the counter drugs, medical needs infant and children’s needs as well as snacks and refreshing soft drinks.

Located at 192 Fairfield Avenue, a stones throw from Miss Thelma’s, the owner recalls her happiest moment to date in her less than week stay in the Park City.

“The guys at Sweet Treats made me a pharmacy cake,” she exclaimed. “It was so authentic. I can’t believe they took the time to make it and welcome me like that.”

But then came the million dollar question (well, maybe we’re exaggerating): ‘Did you eat it?’

“Oh, yeah,” it was delicious.”

Some memories don’t last forever.

The Bridgeport Community Pharmacy is open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information call Dawn at 203-330-9191.
