Statement by OPM Secretary Ben Barnes in response to comments about the level of state bonding

“We have noticed Senator (L. Scott) Frantz (R-Greenwich) decried bonding yesterday – however, the Senator has not cast a clear “no” vote on a bond project since 2013. This calendar year hundreds of projects have been through the Bond Commission, with a value of about $2.4 billion in general obligation bonds. Over this period, the Senator’s colleagues put out press releases celebrating bonding for their own districts. It’s frustrating – they complain about bonding in the aggregate but don’t oppose – and even praise – individual projects. They need to make up their minds.”
